On Tuesday, President Joe Biden is set to welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House amid ongoing discussions in Congress about a Kiev aid deal.

This marks Zelensky’s third visit to Washington since Russia initiated its war against Ukraine in February 2022. Zelensky has been invited to speak at an all-senators meeting and will meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The White House meeting aims to emphasize the unwavering U.S. commitment to supporting Ukraine against Russia’s invasion. Discussions will cover Ukraine’s urgent needs, defense cooperation, and strengthening international unity in supporting Ukraine.

The visit occurs during crucial congressional negotiations for emergency aid to Ukraine, tied to immigration and border policy changes. The proposed $106 billion aid package includes substantial support for Ukraine’s defense and funding for Israel, Taiwan, and border operations. However, disagreements persist, particularly among top Republicans wary of additional funding without significant immigration-related policy changes.
